(MYFOX NATIONAL) – They may not have a strong physical resemblance, but according to PBS's new documentary on celebrity family trees, " Faces of America ", Eva Longoria Parker and Meryl Streep are distantly related.

While the "Desperate Housewives" star is of Mexican descent and the fair-skinned 2010 Best Actress Oscar nominee is of English ancestry, according to the new series, they share a distant gene pool.

In fact, according to the Baltimore Sun , Streep, Longoria Parker and cellist Yo-Yo Ma all share lineage through the "American immigrant experience."

The New York Post's Page Six reports that Regis Philbin wasn't quite sure about the saliva test he offered up for a personal background check while at the launch of the celebrity genealogy premiere at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan.

"I don't know about this," the morning TV show co-host told Page Six. "I wouldn't want to be related to you!"

But "Faces of America" host Henry Louis Gates Jr. then revealed that he and Philbin actually have an ancestral link, announced during the Monday night unveiling, reports the Wall Street Journal .

"Regis," said the Harvard scholar, who took spit samples of some of the guests when they arrived at the event, "You are my cousin, brother."

The New York Daily News reveals that devout Catholic funnyman Stephen Colbert was emotional when he found out that he descends from Lutherans.

And Jewish "Charlie Wilson's War" director Mike Nichols has a DNA connection to daytime talk show host Dr. Oz -- of Turkish and Muslim heritage -- that goes back 5,000 years.

Another shocker at the gala was that Oprah's good friend Gayle King's family tree branches out to Martha Stewart.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph reported -- before President Obama took office -- that he is a distant cousin of actor Brad Pitt, while Senator Hilary Clinton is related to Angelina Jolie.
