What is a Lip Dub video?

It’s a video shot in one continuous take with everyone in the video lip-syncing the words to the music. No video editing is allowed in the one continuous take.

Who can enter?

Public or private high schools in one of the following North Carolina counties: Chatham, Cumberland, Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Halifax, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Nash, Northampton, Orange, Person, Sampson, Vance, Wake, Warren, Wayne or Wilson

High Schools can have as many or few participants as they would like, however, ALL STUDENT PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN GRADES 9 THROUGH 12.

How many videos can a high school enter?

Limit ONE video per high school.

What song can we use?

You are limited to ONE song. Mash-ups are not allowed. Song choice is completely up to you, however, the high school teacher/administrator must approve it.

Who can be in the video?

ALL STUDENT PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN GRADES 9 THROUGH 12.
Non-student adults, including, but not limited to, high school administrators, faculty and/or staff, may appear in the video but may NOT operate any video or editing equipment.

When is the submission period?

It starts at 12:01am on Thursday, February 23 and ends at 11:59pm on Friday, April 13.

[We STRONGLY recommend you do not wait until the very last minute to submit since there are NO EXCEPTIONS to the submission deadline.]

What are the video requirements?

  • Participants must lip-synch the words of the song used on the sound track (new or existing).
  • Video must be shot in one continuous take in the high school and/or on the high school grounds.
  • Videos may not include profanity, graphic images, obscene images or inappropriate behavior.
            (FOX 50 reserves the right to disqualify anyone for any said violations, as determined in FOX 50’s sole discretion.)
  • The ONLY editing technique allowed is adding the final audio soundtrack to the video.
  • The ONLY video graphic/text allowed may be in the beginning or ending of the video.
            (Videos will be disqualified for failure to follow the editing restrictions.)
  • Video file size cannot exceed 200 MB.
  • Videos must be in one of the following formats:
    • .avi, .dv, .mov, .qt, .mp4, .mpeg, .3gp, .asf, .wmv, .mpg

Wait, I have to submit my video AND a photo?

Yes. This year, in addition to submitting your video, each high school must submit one digital group PHOTO---in JPG format---with their submission.  It must be a high resolution JPG.

Can I edit the video?

The ONLY editing technique allowed within the one continuous take is adding the final audio soundtrack to the video.

The ONLY video graphic/text allowed may be in the beginning or ending of the video, but not in the one continuous take. No other video graphics or effects are allowed within the continuous take.

Can I edit the music?

No. Remember, your high school teacher/administrator must approve the song or songs used in the video. Please double-check all the rules and guidelines including how big the video file size can be.

How do you submit?

Video, group photo and entry form MUST be submitted by an adult, 21 years or older, employed as a faculty or staff member of the submitting high school.
 Fill out the online entry form and upload your high school’s self-created video at www.FOX50.com.

Do not drop-off or mail videos. Only videos submitted on www.FOX50.com that have completed entry forms will be accepted.

(A small suggestion: DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO SUBMIT. Last year, many schools waited until the last minute, ran into problems and weren't able to submit. Don't let this happen to you!)

Can we drop off or mail our video and photo?

No. Only videos and photos submitted on www.FOX50.com that have completed entry forms will be accepted.

Does it have to be a music video?

Videos must consist of participants lip-synching the words of the song used on the sound track. (Show us your creativity and school spirit in your video! You'll be glad you did!)

What happens after we submit a video?

FOX
50 will contact the high school staff member, based on contact information listed on the entry form, within two business days to confirm entry information.Once reviewed and confirmed, eligible videos will be posted to www.FOX50.com and be available for public viewing and online voting.

How long should it take before we see our video on FOX50.com?

Once reviewed and confirmed, eligible videos will be posted within 24-48 hours to www.FOX50.com and be available for public viewing and online voting.


How does the voting work?

Voting can be done by visiting www.FOX50.com and viewing eligible video entries. Voting period begins Monday, April 23 at 12:01 AM and ends Sunday, May 6 at 11:59PM.  All eligible entries received by 11:59PM on Friday, April 13 will be posted on www.FOX50.com. During voting period, registered users may vote up to TEN (10) times per day.  Entries generated by a script, macro or other automated means will be disqualified.

How are the winners chosen?

All winning videos will be determined by online votes.

What happens if there’s a tie?

In the event of a tie, the winning video will be drawn at random from among the tied videos.

How much can our school win?

There will be three total, separate, winning high schools based on voting.

  • One (1) verified grand prize winning high school will receive a check for $10,000.
  • One (1) verified 1st place runner up winning high school will receive a check for $5,000.
  • One (1) verified 2nd place runner up winning high school will receive a check for $2,500.

Winners will be announced on FOX50.com:

  • 2nd place runner up winner (3rd most online votes) – announced Tuesday, May 8
  • 1st place runner up winner (2nd most online votes) – announced Wednesday, May 9
  • Grand prize winner (most online votes) – announced Thursday, May 10
