FOX 50's Lip Dub Project 2012 Rules & Guidelines


No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. All federal and state regulations apply.

Only public or private high schools located within one of the following North Carolina counties are eligible to submit: Chatham, Cumberland, Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Halifax, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Nash, Northampton, Orange, Person, Sampson, Vance, Wake, Warren, Wayne or Wilson.


Fill out the online entry form and upload your high school's self-created video and group photo at Do not drop-off or mail videos or photos. Only videos and photos submitted on that have completed entry forms and meet all requirements will be accepted. NEW: Limit ONE (1) Lip Dub video entry per high school.

Video, photos and entry form MUST be submitted by an adult, 21 years or older, employed as a faculty or staff member of the submitting high school. By submitting the entry form, video and group photo, the high school's faculty or staff member agrees to all rules, grants consent for the song selection and grants consent that all high school students appearing in the video and group photo have been approved and cleared by the high school's administration.

Uploaded video and photo MUST meet the following requirements:

  • NEW: Limit ONE (1) unedited song per video . No mash-ups!
  • Participants must lip-synch the words of the song used on the sound track (new or existing).
  • Video must be shot in ONE continuous take in the high school and/or on the high school grounds.
  • The ONLY editing technique allowed within the one continuous take is adding the final audio soundtrack to the video.
  • The ONLY video graphic/text allowed may be in the beginning or ending of the video. No other video graphics or effects allowed within the continuous take.
  • Video file size cannot exceed 200 MB.
  • Videos must be in one of the following formats:
    • .avi, .dv, .mov, .qt, .mp4, .mpeg, .3gp, .asf, .wmv, .mpg
  • NEW: Each High School must submit one (1) digital group PHOTO with their submission. Must be a high resolution JPEG.

Non-student adults, including, but not limited to, high school administrators, faculty and/or staff, may guide and advise the production and appear in the video but may NOT operate any video or editing equipment.

Videos may not include profanity, graphic images, obscene images or inappropriate behavior. FOX 50 (WRAZ-TV) reserves the right to disqualify anyone for any said violations, as determined in FOX 50's (WRAZ-TV) sole discretion.

Employees of FOX 50 (WRAZ-TV) and their immediate families are not eligible to participate in any video submitted. FOX 50 (WRAZ-TV)/Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc. reserves the right to disqualify any entrant if the contest rules are not followed. No substitution of prizes or transfer of prizes to a third party is permitted by winner or runners-up.

All materials submitted will become the property of FOX 50 (WRAZ-TV)/Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc. and will not be returned. Any expenses you incur during the application process are solely your responsibility. Eligible entries will be posted and available for viewing on

APPROVAL: After a video, photo and entry form have been submitted, FOX 50 will contact the high school staff member, based on contact information listed on the entry form, within two (2) business days to confirm entry information. Video and photo will not be posted to prior to the high school staff member listed on the entry form confirming all information related to the video, photo and entry form to the satisfaction of FOX 50.

Once reviewed and confirmed, eligible videos and photos will be posted to and be available for public viewing and voting on web and mobile devices.

VOTING: Voting period begins Monday, April 23 at 12:01am and ends Sunday, May 6 at 11:59PM. All eligible entries received by 11:59PM on Friday, April 13, and confirmed to the satisfaction of FOX 50, will be posted on Registered users may vote by visiting

NEW: Registered users may vote up to TEN (10) times per day, per registered user. Entries generated by a script, macro or other automated means will be disqualified.

There will be one (1) grand prize winning video, one (1) 1st place runner up video and one (1) 2nd place runner up video. All winning videos will be determined by online votes and announced on in this manner:

  • 2nd place runner up winner (3rd most online votes) - announced Tuesday, May 8
  • 1st place runner up winner (2nd most online votes) - announced Wednesday, May 9
  • Grand prize winner (most online votes) - announced Thursday, May 10

In the event of a tie, the winning video will be drawn at random from among the tied videos.


  • One (1) verified grand prize winning high school will receive a check for $10,000.
  • One (1) verified 1st place runner up winning high school will receive a check for $5,000.
  • One (1) verified 2nd place runner up winning high school will receive a check for $2,500.

All checks will be made payable to the high school listed on the entry form and will be delivered either by certified mail or in person to the head administrator at each of the winning school. All prizes will be subject to forfeiture if not claimed by 6/15/12.

LIABILITY : FOX 50 (WRAZ-TV)/Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc., are not responsible for problems associated with television transmission, radio transmission, cable transmission, satellite transmission, phone lines, Internet crashes or slowdowns caused by network congestion, viruses, sabotage, satellite failures, phone line failures, or other Internet interruptions or malfunctions or for any technical or other difficulties which may prohibit, prevent, or interfere with the transmission of television or radio signals to all or limited geographic areas during the playing of the Contest or which may interfere with a participant's ability to login or register or submit an entry online, electrical outages, natural disasters or acts of man or God that are beyond the control of FOX 50 (WRAZ-TV)/Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc. FOX 50 (WRAZ)/Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc., disclaim any warranty of merchantability, warranty of fitness, and any other implied warranty. FOX 50 (WRAZ-TV)/Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc., are not responsible for cancellations, postponements, or delays.



Any attempt by an entrant or any other individual to damage any online service or web site or undermine the legitimate and fair operation of the Contest will disqualify the contestant responsible and is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Fox50 reserves the right to seek damages and/or other remedies from any such person to the full extent permitted by law.

All decisions relating to the contest and interpretation of these rules are made by the management of FOX 50 (WRAZ-TV) in its sole discretion and are final. FOX 50 (WRAZ-TV) reserves the right to change the rules at any time to ensure the fair administration of the contest and compliance with applicable laws.

If for any reason, the contest is not capable of running as planned for any reason, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, and unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of FOX 50 which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity of the contest, FOX 50 reserves its right in its discretion to disqualify any individual it believes has tampered with the entry process, and/or cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest. FOX 50 and its respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, agents and employees (i) assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alternation of, entries: (ii) are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, or provider, computer equipment, software, failure of any email to be received by FOX 50, on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to the participant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this contest.
