For beginning students. Learn the basics of Encaustic painting, collage, fusing techniques and surface treatments. Encaustic painting is an ancient, versatile and engaging method of creating art with hot wax. We will address safety issues (ventilation, temperature control, proper fusing and equipment use), explore fusing techniques, paint application, collaging, carving and surface techniques, how to create translucent and opaque layers, how to make encaustic medium and how to ensure your final work is properly cared for and archival. Ideally, each student will have a completed piece at the end of each class. A $35 materials fee is due to instructor at each workshop.
