Please join the John Avery Boys and Girls Club on Thursday, October 18th, for their Open House and “Lights on Afterschool” event. John Avery will host an open house from 5:00-6:30 for parents, children, and members of the community to learn more about our afterschool programs. Attendees will be able to register for our afterschool programs, sign up to volunteer, and partake in “Lights on Afterschool” arts and crafts activities.
Each afternoon around 15 million American children, or more than a quarter of our nation’s youth, are left unsupervised after school. Between the hours of 3 pm and 6 pm children are most likely to partake in juvenile crime with experimentation in drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and sex. The parents of 18 million children would enroll their children in after school programs if they were available. Help John Avery spread the word to parents and youth about the availability of an affordable program for the underprivileged.
“Lights on Afterschool” is a nationwide effort to rally support for programs offered afterschool for youth. The John Avery Boys and Girls Club offers many programs including Power Hour: Every Minute Counts, Project Learn, Club Tech, Smart Moves, Triple Play, Keystone Club, CareerLaunch, and new Garden Program
