Event Description

The National Center for the Prevention of Home Improvement Fraud is hosting a contractor fraud prevention workshop. The event is free and open to the public. We welcome all homeowners no matter where they are in their home improvement project. NCPHIF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and our mission is to educate homeowners to reduce contractor fraud BEFORE a home repair or home improvement project

Scheduled speakers include Detective Frank DeSantis from Financial Crimes Unit for the City of Greenville, NCPHIF Executive Director Phae Howard, Consumer Attorney Charlotte-Anne T. Alexander, and Insurance Agent Bob Lisson, Ph.D. the Deputy Commissioner of the North Carolina Department of Insurance.

Some of the tips given to homeowners include:
• How to find out if the contractor is licensed and insured
• How to manage the building permit process
• How to pay the contractor
• What should and should not be in the contract
• What to do when you and the contractor are in conflict
